Carmelita
This Spanish dancer is called Carmelita. She is made from
Flumo, a strong and
versatile medium, entirely suitable for doll making. It has a smooth texture which
closely resembles porcelain while giving a realistic appearance to the doll. She has been poured, painted and dressed
by me, but the original sculpture is by the
doll artist, Stacy Hoffman. Her hands and feet are by Doreen Sinnett.
Carmelita has a beautiful face, with hazel eyes,
tangerine lips with a hint of gold, grey eye-shadow and a soft blush to her
cheeks. She is dressed in the finest brocades, silks and chiffons. I
did her pantaloons and petticoat with chiffon. Her bodice is a turquoise
and gold brocade with her three tiered skirt in matching fine silks. It
was difficult to find lace to match the exact shade of gold on her bodice, and I
did not want to settle for any other colour so as to tone down the dramatic
effect of the doll, so I decided to do things the hard way and paint the lace to
match her bodice. Her jewelry is comprised of exquisite turquoise beads of
varying sizes accentuated by fine gold chain. She is posed lifting up her
skirts whilst in mid-dance.
She stands at about 5 1/2 inches and is a
perfectly scaled dollhouse miniature. She would look wonderful posed in
front of a mirror, practicing for the big show ahead, perhaps in a grand hall
dancing or just add her to a doll collection, where she could stand out as a
unique handcrafted piece.
All my dolls are accompanied by a signed
certificate of authenticity.
