Faelyn

When I created Faelyn, it had been a while since I created a doll, and as a result wanted to do something totally different.  I played with ideas and was soon surrounded by a mountain of fabric and trim. As my thoughts slowly became streamlined, Faelyn was born. I wanted to introduce splashes of colour that would coordinate whilst bringing out the doll with dramatic flair.  I chose bright colour in her costuming which blend in perfectly with her skin tone, hair and wings.

Faelyn is a woodland Faerie.  When I painted her face, I chose green for her eyes.  Her lips are a soft pink and she has a tattoo on the side of one eye which enhances her look.  Her eyebrows have an upward tilt, adding to her pixie like appearance.

Her costume is made using carnival trim and silk ribbon.  Her upper body is covered with faux cloisonné enamel flowers and leaves.  Her wings are made from extremely thin cotton and then painted using a special fabric paint which has been blended thoroughly with an iridescent medium.  The resulting effect is startling, as her wings appear to have been made from thousands of tiny mica particles.  The colour of her wings has been carefully selected to blend in with her costuming so as not to detract or draw attention away from the doll.

Her hair falls in soft waves about her shoulders and back and I have used a faux cloisonné enamel flower and leaf ornament as embellishment.

The background and tree, made by me, are not included, but did serve as a perfect setting for the pictures, so I could not resist using these.  Faelyn would look absolutely delightful posed somewhere special in your home, or feel free to use her in a 1/12th scale miniature outdoor scene.  Faelyn is a 1/12th scale miniature and if standing would be 5 1/2 inches tall.
